(Jen & Vince) THE BREAKUP
After more than a year together—and, recently, lots of time apart—Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn formally announce their split
It’s official: Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, the celeb couple who worked so hard to keep their romance under the radar, no longer have anything to hide. “Jennifer and Vince mutually agreed to end their relationship,” their reps Stephen Huvane and John Pisani told Scoop in a statement. “They continue to be good friends today.” Although the two have vigorously defended their relationship (Vaughn, 36, even threatened to sue a newspaper for implying he was passionately kissing another woman), the pair, who became a couple while filming The Breakup in Chicago in 2005, have spent only a few days together since he left for London in September to film the comedy Fred Claus. It was after one of their rare visits—her October jaunt, during which they mostly holed up in the Dorchester hotel—that they decided to throw in the towel. “There was no big drama,” says one Vaughn pal. “It was just the direction they were heading in.” Since then, Vince has been spotted in Budapest (where, at the Tom George restaurant, a witness says he was “gawking at a table of girls”) and Aniston, 37, has been busy with charity events and premiering her short film co-directorial debut. “They’re fine,” says the Vaughn source. “He’s in a good place, she’s in a good place.”
THE ORBIT OF PARIS
Want a rocket boost for your social life? Young celebs in need of a night out—or a kick in the career—feel the pull of Paris. And both worlds are sent spinning….
After the two collided last month at a post-AMAs party in L.A., the newly single mother was relaunched into the party scene as Paris’s new BFF. They swapped clothes and Brit picked up style tips for maximum exposure. On Paris’s bright side of the moon? If the buzz is true, she’ll record a song for Britney’s new album.
Another set of childhood buddies, Nicole was a virtual unknown until Paris invited her to co-star in a new reality show, The Simple Life (now in its fifth season)—and industry insiders credit Paris for putting Nicole on the map. They had a falling out in early 2005 but have recently kissed and made up.
They met at preschool and have known each other since. But not until Kim, a stylist, was hired to rework Paris’s closet in 2005 did they really reconnect and start hanging out again. Kim’s star power shot right up after Paris introduced her to a newly single Nick Lachey last May and the two briefly dated. Paris got to play a new role: Cupid.
These two long traveled in the same time-space continuum—late nights at L.A. clubs—and paired up, both gaining brighter auras from the paparazzi’s reflected light. But they clashed after Paris started dating Stavros Niarchos (the ex of Lindsay’s pal Mary-Kate Olsen).
Kimberly and Paris were grade-school buds. After the feud between Paris and Nicole Richie in early 2005, Paris found a backup bud in Kimberly—and even nominated her for The Simple Life. It didn’t go over, but the relationship propelled Rod’s daughter’s rotation in the limelight.
LOST IN TRANSLATION?
It’s no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow loves the Brits—she even married one. But the Oscar-winner swears she didn’t trash her fellow Americans in a Portuguese newspaper (left). “It’s all nuts,” Paltrow tells Scoop. “I feel so lucky to be American—I’m very patriotic.” Says the actress, 34, who shares homes in Manhattan, Long Island and London with husband Chris Martin and their kids: “I’m a New York girl.” So why the confusion? Talking to reporters in Spanish, she explains, “I said Europe is a much older culture. Obviously I need to go back to seventh-grade Spanish!”

Pam Anderson & Tommy Lee
Fresh from her split with Kid Rock, the ex-Baywatch star spent Dec. 2 with her ex-husband, Lee, in Malibu. They watched their son play soccer—nothing out of the ordinary for exes. But Anderson did once call Lee “the love of my life.” Any chance of reconciliation? Her rep had “no comment” and his said they “continue to be friends.”

Lance Bass & Reichen Lehmkuhl
After several months together, the former ‘N Syncer and his Amazing Race beau have split—with hope. “We remain the best of friends,” the two said in a statement to PEOPLE. “Please respect our privacy as we try to work things out.”
Rachel Bilson & Adam Brody
It’s a sad day in The O.C. Two of its stars—who dated both onscreen and off—recently called it quits, a close source tells PEOPLE. “They just grew apart,” says the source, adding that after three years, Bilson and Brody “have been on and off for a while now.” Reps for both declined comment.

For George Clooney, before the Oscar, before ER, before his role on Roseanne—there was Max, his pet potbellied pig. Max, 18, passed away on Dec. 1; three days later, at the L.A. premiere of his film The Good German, Clooney spoke fondly of his nearly 300-lb. pal. “It’s strange not having him sitting on the carpet in the house,” the teary actor said of his “longest relationship.” “He got me in a lot of trouble—scared the hell out of a lot of delivery people too.” Adds Clooney’s longtime pal Karen Duffy: “I’m sure Max is in pig heaven, looking at all the sows he’s gonna get, thinking, ‘I’m George Clooney‘s pig!'”
CHRISTMAS DOUBLE TAKE

Hey, if Jerry Seinfeld’s puffy shirt can make it in, why not Sly’s trunks? On Dec. 5, Sylvester Stallone donated Rocky memorabilia—including gloves, the boxer’s trademark hat and his bloodstained shorts from Rocky IV—to the Smithsonian. “Rocky belongs to everyone,” says Stallone, 60, who reprises his role in Rocky Balboa, out Dec. 20. Still, he joked, “I knew I was getting old, but I didn’t think I’d be with the dinosaurs so soon.”
Q + A
HOST WITH THE MOST
Boston Legal‘s William Shatner plies his charm on ABC’s Show Me the Money
Captain’s Log, Stardate November 2006. When he’s not busy playing blowhard lawyer Denny Crane on Boston Legal, William Shatner, 75, can be found in his new role, host of Show Me the Money, a quiz show with 13 dancing girls. Captain Kirk would be pleased.
Do you practice saying the phrase “Show me the money!”?
I’ve been trying it many different ways, from demanding to wheedling. It will evolve as I get to know the role deeper. I practice in front of my wife—she lets me know when I’m off.
Do you know the answers to the questions beforehand?
Not only do I not get them, but sometimes there are answers I should know but don’t. I am in awe of the people who are able to get these questions.
Was dancing on the show your idea?
Yes, that was my idea. Could you imagine someone else suggesting I dance?
Is it true you were asked to be on Dancing with the Stars?
For real. We shoot Money next door to them and they came running and said [I had] to do it. It’s an affirmation of my skills, but I don’t have that kind of time.
You’re being inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
Isn’t that something? I guess 50 years on TV is a down payment. It’s a real honor. I’m delighted, grateful, all those wonderful words.
Was the decision to induct you made before you were dancing on Money?
Yes, they tried to rescind it after that, actually, but it’s too late.
