When Sara Evans needs a little alone time, she makes a beeline for the living room in her Franklin, Tenn., home and curls up on the overstuffed sofa with a glass of her favorite red wine and a roaring fire in the fireplace. “The living room is kind of my place to go at night after the kids are in bed,” says Evans, 36, the mother of Audrey, 3, Olivia, 4, and Avery, 8, with ex-husband Craig Schelske. “I’ll light some candles and watch TV. If the kids need me, they can look down and see that I’m there.” Decorator Zephyr Sharp helped Evans accent the cozy room with antiques-market finds like the fence posts that sit above her fireplace and an early 20th-century rose-glass lamp. Evans’s most prized piece, however, is an upholstered rose-colored chair and footstool. “The fabric was like $200 a yard,” she says. “It’s so pretty. My friend Traci always sits in it with wine or beer, and I’m like, ‘Uuuhhh!’ We haven’t had an accident yet, but I’m terrified.”
