In wrap dresses like the kind Diana used to wear, Middleton (in June 2006) “has an understated elegance,” says Elizabeth Emanuel, who helped design Diana’s wedding dress.
Although Middleton is trying to avoid “being tied up too closely with any one designer,” says a pal, she does have a fondness for Miss Sixty jeans.
Like Di, Kate (at a wedding in ’05) usually has her hats custom-made.
Middleton has the same qualities that made Diana a fashion plate. “She’s got good height, athletic figure and complexion,” says Hilary Alexander, fashion critic for the U.K.’s Telegraph.
Middleton bought her $670 BCBG jersey gown (for the June 3 Boodles Boxing Ball) at Harvey Nichols, an upscale department store favored by Diana.
“Kate’s pleasant, pretty and slightly Sloane-y,” says a source, referring to the Sloane Rangers, the nickname given to upper-crust types like Diana and her pals back in the ’80s.
Middleton (at the prince’s June 17 polo match) paired a halter wrap dress with $187 wedge espadrilles from LK Bennett.
