Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Roll over Samuel Taylor Coleridge and tell the Romantics the news. If, as someone once said, “Good poets borrow, but great poets steal,” Frankie is a great poet, but this clip proves he’s little else. Frankie steals the opening lines of Kubla Khan and even adds some immortal lines of his own, like “There goes a supernova, what a pushover, yeah,” which are then repeated ad migrainium. The video is a compendium of freak-show mishaps that make as little sense as the song itself. (A woman turns into a huge snake, and various other oddities perform for the camera.) For random eeriness this video should win an award. The problem is that it is so pointlessly eerie it’s boring.
