FOX (Thursdays, 8 p.m. ET)
Looming and dead-eyed, Brad Garrett always seems as if he’s visiting from Hades on some sort of unsatisfactory vacation package. At any moment he might return to the shadows, grumbling about lousy food or a hotel room with too small a bathroom. Here he’s a middle-aged high-school history teacher in the long, post-romantic twilight of marriage. His wife is a snarling, discontented Joely Fisher, showing none of the prickly neurotic neediness that made her much funnier last season on Desperate Housewives. Occasionally, a tiny flower of love peeps out of this slag heap, but the endless, resentful insults are a drag.
