Picks and Pans Review: Three Reasons Why the Wicker Man Is Not a Classic

Posted on

Nicolas Cage’s new remake of this 1973 horror movie didn’t screen for critics (never a good sign). Still, it can’t be any worse than the ludicrous original (out on DVD), sometimes inexplicably described as a cult classic. Don’t believe the hype.

1. A grating folk soundtrack snuffs the creepy X-Files vibe.

2. A naked Britt Ekland gyrates against a wall in an unerotic, Showgirls-like routine.

3. Bad guy Christopher Lee (below) later dons a Cher wig and purple tie-dyed sundress. Now that’s frightening.
