Stand-up comic Sinbad plays a 35-year-old computer-game designer whose carefree bachelor existence draws to a close when he takes on two foster kids. Premise seem familiar? It should. It’s one of TV’s oldest, most overworked concepts, going back to Bachelor Father and Family Affair.

Given more room to maneuver than he had on A Different World, Sinbad proves to be an engaging and vigorous, if at times overbearing, presence. His comic style is full court press. But with scripts and a supporting cast that are weak, most of the time Sinbad is flailing around in a vacuum.
