Picks and Pans Review: The Bronx Zoo

What a TV hybrid: Lou Grant comes to Room 222 in a new show with the sexual tension of LA. Law, the crises of St. Elsewhere and the bozocrats of Hill Street—-in short, Fame without the song and dance. In his return to series TV, Ed Asner is a principled principal ruling a lost cause of a New York City high school. It’s good to see Ed back with a fine cast, including Kathryn (Raw Deal) Harrold and David (Dallas: The Early Years) Wilson as the sexually tense twosome. And it’s good to see a show trying to reform American education. If only Ed didn’t preach so much: “Teaching became the only job in the world worth doing, to pass along all our knowledge, all that we have been and are to the future….” Is this gonna be on the test?
