Speaking for all my colleagues in the media biz, let me say that we are ideal targets for satire, parody, lampoons, harpoons, slings and arrows, what with our love for colorful graphics, trivial trends and ludicrous lifestyles, our conceit at putting our faces and names on the top of the news and our passion for defying logic by making Jim and Tammy Bakker into a latter-day Adam and Eve after the Fall, Oliver North into a hero and Donna Rice into a sex symbol. Heck, you could make fun of us just for writing long sentences like that. But in their special on the media, the Not Necessarily the News crew pulls its punches and punch lines and lets us go without so much as a bruise on our sizable egos. Instead of making us media mavens the butts of jokes, the show makes jokes about butts, fat, PMS and condoms. There are more laughs on the six o’clock news.
