This was the first film you shot after giving birth to your daughter Nahla. What was it like returning to set?
I made this film five months after she was born, and she is now 6! You think, “How can I not sleep, and nurse and work?” You just do. Women have done this forever. We are built to multitask.
And now you’re juggling even more, with your 5-month-old son Maceo and your upcoming CBS show Extant.
It’s a lot of work, but at the end of the day I can tuck my kids in at night. It allows me to stay home and do something creative and cool.
Does your daughter want to be an actress like you?
She thinks I’m a real-life princess. She sees me when I get dressed up and wear fancy dresses, and she says, “You must be a real princess. Why else would you be dressing like that for work?”
