Truth and Consequences by Laurie Sandell |
REVIEWED BY NICOLE WEISENSEE EGAN
This biography about Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff’s clan is chock-full of drama. Among the reveals: Bernie and his wife Ruth’s suicide attempt after his ’08 arrest; the rift between the duo and their sons, Andrew and Mark; and Ruth’s attempts to reconcile with Andrew in the wake of Mark’s suicide last December. Since Andrew and Ruth cooperated with author Sandell, it’s not surprising that the book portrays them sympathetically, as unsuspecting victims of Bernie’s lies. Buy that or not, anyone curious about this fractured, once tight-knit family will find plenty of food for thought here.
