WHAT THE PROS USED

Meet Her Glam Squad!

MAKEUP Matin Maulawizada @itsmatin

Her skin looks flawless.

She’s really into oil, and I’m obsessed too. I massaged some on her face before applying primer and foundation.

We love the blush.

It was a morning event, so I wanted her to look casual. The blush is a really bright pink that I blended out.

You’ve worked together a while; what’s it like?

I explain what I’m doing, and she goes, “That’s great!” She’s very confident.

HAIR Lorenzo Diaz @lorenzodiazhair

Why a ponytail?

It’s effortless! Rashida wanted her hair out of the way, so we pulled it to the side into a low, loose ponytail.

So cute. How long did it take?

About an hour, because I blew her hair out, then set it with a curling iron and styled it.

What’d you two chat about?

We’re both foodies, so we talked about our favorite restaurants. We both love Burma Superstar in Oakland.

THE MANY FACES OF MICHELLE PHAN

HOW YOUTUBE’S POPULAR BEAUTY MOGUL BUILT HER BRAND ONE MAKEOVER AT A TIME

Michelle Phan’s beauty empire began in 2007 with a simple seven-minute video on natural makeup. “I never expected more than three people to watch it!” she says. Instead 40,000 fans viewed her post in one week, which helped transform the struggling art student into YouTube’s No. 1 beauty queen, with more than 6 million subscribers. Today Phan, 27, produces her online tutorials, ranging from DIY facials to over-the-top transformations, out of her L.A. home studio. “To film a video takes at least six hours. I want them to be like mini movies,” says the self-taught makeup artist, who lists the Disney princesses and her mom, Jennifer, 51, as early muses: “My mom worked at a nail salon, so I’d go there after school and read all the fashion magazines.” Now with her own cosmetics line (Em Michelle Phan) and a new book out in October, Make Up Your Life, Phan barely has time to do her own face. “I never leave the house without sunscreen. I double it up and use BB or CC cream. Then maybe do my brows and that’s it. You don’t really need anything else after that.”
