Former Friends actor Matt LeBlanc was sued for libel and lost wages Aug. 22 in L.A. by Stephanie Stephens for comments LeBlanc made that ran in The National Enquirer. Stephens denies she acted in a sexually aggressive manner toward the actor and that she gave him a “lap dance.” She is seeking unspecified damages. LeBlanc’s rep had no comment…. Randal McCloy, 27, the sole survivor of the Sago mine explosion, and two victims’ families filed negligence suits Aug. 23 in Kanawha County, W.Va., against the mine owner and five companies, seeking unspecified damages.
Warren Steed Jeffs, 50, the leader of a polygamous Mormon sect, was arrested Aug. 28 near Las Vegas. Jeffs, who was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, was sought in connection with several crimes including sexual misconduct with a minor. Currently in federal custody in Las Vegas, Jeffs is awaiting a court hearing.
FOX News correspondent Steve Centanni, 60, and New Zealand-born cameraman Olaf Wiig, 36, were released by kidnappers Aug. 27 after being abducted in the Gaza Strip. The two were covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (PEOPLE, Sept. 4, 2006).
