On Nov. 8, Sophie Wessex, 38, wife of Britain’s Prince Edward, 39, gave birth to the couple’s first child by emergency cesarean section. The baby, who was born several weeks premature, weighed 4 lbs. 9 oz. Doctors said mother and daughter, whose name has not yet been released, were in stable condition.


A British court ordered rock star Van Morrison, 58, to pay $66,000 in damages on Nov. 11 to Gary Marlow, a hotel owner, for canceling a concert in Wiltshire, England, last August. Morrison’s rep could not be reached for comment.


On Nov 10, a photographer for the New York Post sued 50 Cent, 27, for $21 million. James Alcorn, 43, alleges he suffered neck and jaw injuries after being knocked down in August by the rapper’s bodyguards as he attempted to photograph 50 Cent leaving a Manhattan jewelry store. The rapper’s attorney could not be reached for comment….

A Michigan judge recently awarded Eminem, 31, full temporary custody of his 7-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade. The ruling came after warrants were issued for the arrest of the rapper’s ex-wife, Kimberly Mathers, 28, for failing to appear at two pretrial hearings on drug possession and bond violation charges.


On Nov. 7 the London High Court awarded Catherine Zeta-Jones, 34, and Michael Douglas, 59, $24,000 in damages following an April judgment against Hello! magazine for breaching the couple’s privacy for running unauthorized photos of their 2000 wedding (PEOPLE, Feb. 24, 2003). They “are delighted,” says a rep for the actors, who originally sought $800,000….

On Nov. 11 in Galveston, millionaire Robert Durst, 60, was found not guilty of murdering Morris Black, his 71-year-old neighbor, whose dismembered body was found in Galveston Bay in September 2001 (PEOPLE, Nov. 5, 2001). Durst testified that he accidentally shot Black and then in a panic cut up the body.


Bobby Hatfield, 63, who with partner Bill Medley became the Righteous Brothers and pioneered blue-eyed soul with hits like “Unchained Melody” and “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’, ” was found dead of an apparent heart attack on Nov. 5 in a hotel room in Kalamazoo, Mich. Hatfield was due to perform with Medley later that day….

New York and Palm Beach socialite C.Z. Guest, 83, died from ovarian cancer on Nov. 8 en route to a Manhattan hospital. Guest, a respected horsewoman and a leading authority on gardening, wrote a newspaper column and several books including Garden Talk: Ask Me Anything.
