ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Vargas, 39, and singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, 43, who won a Grammy in 1991 for “Walking in Memphis,” wed July 20 in New York City. It is the first marriage for Vargas and the second for Cohn.
Film producer Gary Binkow, 40, sued heavy-metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, 53, and his wife and manager, Sharon, 49, on July 25 in L.A. Binkow alleged that the couple had stolen his idea for their hit MTV series The Osbournes. Binkow, who is seeking unspecified damages, says that he met with the Osbournes and Miramax TV repeatedly in 1999 and 2000 to discuss “a real-life docu-sitcom” about the aging rocker and his family. A representative for the Osbournes could not be reached for comment.
Actress Lela Rochon (Any Given Sunday), 38, and her husband of three years, director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), 37, had their first child, daughter Asia, on July 28 in L.A….

On Nov. 24 the Clark County, Nev., coroner ruled that a “significant amount” of cocaine contributed to the heart attack that killed The Who bassist John Entwistle. The rocker, 57, was found dead in his room at Las Vegas’s Hard Rock Hotel on June 27, one day before the band was scheduled to kick off its three-month nationwide tour (People, July 15, 2002)….
In Cleveland July 30 nine-term Ohio congressman James A. Traficant Jr., 61, was sentenced to eight years in prison for accepting bribes and kickbacks from business leaders (People, Aug. 5, 2002). Five days earlier Traficant, a Democrat, became the second member of the House of Representatives to be expelled since the Civil War….
Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson, 27, who last month was arraigned on 14 charges including assault and firearms violations (PEOPLE, July 29,2002), was cleared of all but two misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats on July 29 in Philadelphia. Iverson had been accused of barging into his cousin’s home with a gun and threatening two men.
