Country crooner Loretta Lynn, 65, was admitted to a hospital near her home in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., on March 21 with pneumonia. Doctors are predicting “a full and speedy recovery,” says her publicist, Schatzi Hageman….

Maureen Reagan, 60, daughter of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman, was released on March 23 from St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica following a nearly four-month stay for metastatic melanoma.


Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones, 54, married his photographer girlfriend, Dawn Maria Laurel, 36, on March 19 in San Antonio. This is the third trip down the aisle for Jones, who has two children from a previous marriage.


Singer Shania Twain, 35, and her producer husband, Robert John Mutt Lange, 52, are expecting their first child this summer. The couple wed in 1993….

Actor Christian Slater, 31, and wife Ryan Haddon, 30, a producer, will welcome their second child in September. Son Jaden is 2.


Singer-songwriter Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, 42, and his producer wife, Tracey (Soul Food), 34, welcomed their second son, Dylan Michael, on March 26 in L.A. Big brother Brandon is 4.

Legal Matters

On March 20 a California appeals court reversed a 1998 jury verdict that awarded $20 million to Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, 62. He had charged that Warner Bros. would not release him from a stalled movie deal, which would have enabled him to make a film based on Pinocchio with another studio.


On March 21 Los Angeles International Airport security guard Della Patton, 59, filed suit against Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D.-R.I.), 33, claiming he shoved and grabbed her last March after she told him his bag was too large to fit through an X-ray scanner. She is seeking unspecified damages. A Kennedy spokesman did not return calls.


Cartoon pioneer William Hanna, 90, who co-founded the legendary Hanna-Barbera animation studio with partner Joseph Barbera, died on March 22 in Los Angeles. Hanna helped create some of the world’s most recognizable cartoon characters, including Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear and Fred Flint-stone….

Syndicated columnist Rowland Evans, 79, who cohosted the CNN political show Evans & Novak with Robert Novak, his writing partner since 1963, died on March 23 of cancer in Washington, D.C….

Environmentalist David McTaggart, 68, who headed Greenpeace International from 1979 to ’91, died on March 23 in a car crash near Perugia, Italy….

Charles K. Johnson, 76, president of the International Flat Earth Society, died on March 19 in Lancaster, Calif. He argued that the earth is not a globe, but disk-shaped….

Adolph Levis, a high school dropout who made millions with Slim Jim beet sticks, died on March 20 at age 89 from heart disease in Boca Raton, Fla.


Vandals broke into the West London home of former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, 28, on March 18 and stole electronics and jewelry, including a necklace once owned by Elizabeth Taylor.


Kenneth Kimes, 26, was extradited on March 20 to California to face murder charges in the 1998 death of businessman David Kazdin, 63. Kimes and his mother, Sante, 66, were convicted of killing New York City socialite Irene Silverman, 82, in 2000. Kimes, now serving a life sentence, faces death if convicted in California.
