On Nov. 16 at Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth knighted 67-year-old actor Maurice Micklewhite, better known as Michael Caine. “I was named after my father, and I was knighted in his name because I love my father,” said Caine, who took his stage name from the 1954 film The Caine Mutiny.


While model Kate Moss, 26, was visiting the U.S. recently, burglars broke into her London home and reportedly snatched a necklace that ex-beau Johnny Depp had given her. The crooks remain at large….

A gemencrusted model ship belonging to the late Princess Diana is missing, and one of her former butlers, Harold Brown, 48, was arrested in London on Nov. 14 in connection with the theft.


Actress Rebecca De Mornay, 41, and her significant other of five years, sportscaster Patrick O’Neal, 33, are expecting their second child in the spring. The couple have a daughter, Sophia, 3….

Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher, 28, and his girlfriend Nicole Appleton, 25, a performer in the all-girl band All Saints, are expecting a baby next year. Gallagher has a 1-year-old son with actress Patsy Kensit; the couple divorced in September….

Law and Order

On Nov. 14 in Seattle, a judge sentenced Vili Fualaau, 17, the minor who fathered two children with teacher Mary K. Letourneau, to six months of probation after he admitted to trying to steal a car. He also received 16 hours of community service and a $100 fine.


Diminutive rapper Joe C., 26, Detroit rocker Kid Rock’s 3’9″ sidekick, died of natural causes on Nov. 17 in Taylor, Mich. Born Joseph Calleja, he had suffered from celiac disease, a chronic nutritional disturbance….

Charles Ruff, the wheelchair-mobile lawyer who represented President Clinton during his impeachment, died from a heart attack at his home in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 19. He was 61.

In Court

On Nov. 15 a court in England found the man who tried to stab ex-Beatle George Harrison to death at his home late last year not guilty by reason of insanity. Authorities immediately sent Michael Abram, 34, to a psychiatric hospital for an indefinite stay.

Doctors in L.A. performed a minor amputation on All in the Family alum Carroll O’Connor, 76, on Nov. 7. In an ongoing effort to battle the actor’s diabetes, they removed a portion of a toe on his left foot.


For the second time this year it looks as if the five-year marriage between actors Nicolas Cage, 36, and Patricia Arquette, 32, is headed for divorce court. She filed to end the marriage on Nov. 17 in L.A. Earlier this year, Cage filed but later asked the court to dismiss the case….

Michael Skakel, 40, the Kennedy family member indicted for a murder that took place 25 years ago in Connecticut, recently received a divorce petition from his wife of nine years, Margot, 37.
