“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” wrote the poet John Keats. That could be the motto of our latest batch of standouts. Glam—and grunge (thank you. Lord!)—are out. This year’s righteous rituals? Soap, water and toothpaste. Forget the self-importance, too. Jim Carrey isn’t a liar when he admits, “The way you wear a zit is the key to beauty.” Harrison Ford complains that he finds it such “a complete pain” when his hair is fussed with on a movie set that he has “always wanted to be bald.” But the last word in loveliness comes from Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche, who says the secret is lightening up on self-criticism. “You can transform yourself,” she says, “just by accepting yourself.” We’ll drink to that… with a liter of spring water, of course!
