When I hear the national anthem after winning a race, I think about… Everything that went into that race and that moment. Hearing the national anthem play and actually standing on the podium is one of the greatest feelings.

I keep all my 2004 Olympic gold…

In a secret place! No, to be really honest, I’ve only really looked at them one time since Athens. I just haven’t looked at them, not for any particular reason. I’ve watched all my races but haven’t looked at the medals.

Aside from swimming, my other great talent is…

Being lazy. That’s probably one of my favorite things to do. I sit on the couch and watch TV or take a nap. I probably take a good three- or four-hour nap every day.

When I’m on the road, I most miss…

My dog Herman. I’m actually excited to get home to see him. He’s like my little boy. He’s about 2 years old and an English bulldog. He pretty much just hangs out with me. We watch whatever is on. I’m always watching SportsCenter or movies, and I can’t wait for the new season of Entourage to start.

Another thing I like to compete in is…

Poker. My game is kind of rusty lately, but hopefully after the Olympics I can get back into it. It’s a different side of competition, and that side is cool for me. I have a bunch of friends who are in Vegas right now who are playing in the World Series of Poker. One of my friends, Michael Banducci, actually won a World Series bracelet and is just destroying it out there!

In competition I wear a Speedo. At the beach I wear…

Usually a pair of board shorts.

To have a different car for every day of the week…

Would be cool. I have a BMW 7 Series and a 2007 Range Rover. The BMW is fully tricked out: rims, TVs, tinted windows—the whole nine yards. I want a more sporty car, so I’ll see what I get next year.

My dating life is…Uh… [Laughs]
This is pretty much the time to really focus on swimming—just because it’s so close to the Olympics and trials and everything that I want to do—so I’m not even thinking about that stuff.

There’s Facebook and MySpace, but I founded a social networking site because…

Having is an opportunity for swimmers from all over the world to have a special bond with one another. I think swimmers are a different breed, and I think just being able to interact with people and kids from all over the world is something that the sport has never seen. And everything I do is always being filmed, so everyone on the site can see what I am going through, and I think it’s pretty fun.

After the Olympics, I am…

Moving back to Baltimore, my hometown. I miss pretty much everything about it: the people, the downtown, being close to family—my mom [Debbie] and sisters [Whitney and Hilary]. I am definitely looking forward to getting back to all of that stuff. I will still continue to raise the bar and grow the sport of swimming. Actually, just being able to have fun with everything I do is all I could ask for.

If Dancing with the Stars called…

I can’t dance that well, so if I do it, I would definitely need a lot of help!
