The Jenners

Let’s forget about Farrah Fawcett and Lee Majors. This is the beautiful couple we should be cheering on (PEOPLE, April 11).

Micheline Toussaint

I’m getting disgusted with Bruce Jenner’s putdowns of Mark Spitz’s post-Olympics business ventures. Spitz has seven gold medals and, as far as I know, hasn’t had to sell any of them to make ends meet. Jenner would seem more of a “winner” if he kept his mouth shut.

Phyllis Jacobssen

Bloomington, Ill.

At the first network superstars competition in Malibu, I asked Bruce Jenner for his autograph. If he doesn’t like signing autographs, he sure didn’t let me know. He was the epitome of politeness.

Brigitte Bardot

Bravo Brigitte! My friends and I sympathize with you in your crusade to save the baby Harp seals. We are appalled by the number of fur coats on our campus. How can a status symbol be valued higher than life? Nous aimons aussi les bébés phoques!

Cindy Shaw

Denison University

Granville, Ohio

I personally couldn’t club a rat, let alone a baby seal but when it comes to depriving a whole community of its livelihood, that’s a different story. Brigitte Bardot should spend her excess money crusading for human rights instead of animal rights.

Richard S. Cerminaro

I pledge that if they do stop killing the seals I will buy fabric or a jacket made of their fake fur. I will put my money where my mouth is, and I think others would too.

René Lévesque

As a Canadian citizen who resides in the U.S., I say if Quebec wishes to separate, let her! She has been nothing but a thorn in the side of Unity.

Although she is abundantly wealthy in resources, Quebec would have drowned in her own corruption decades ago were it not for the “English” dollar. Canada should worry less about “selling out” to the Americans and more about giving the country away to an ungrateful Quebec.

Morris the Cat

When I was in elementary school, I was constantly plagued by my friends teasing, “Morris, time for din-din.” Six years later, I am still plagued by my friends. I’ve learned to live with the same name as that cat, but it has not been easy.

James B. Morris

North Tonawanda, N.Y.

I would like to know why Morris was not put into quarantine for three months as are other animals when brought to Hawaii.

Tess Damen

Morris’ week in Hawaii was in fact spent in quarantine. He was kept in a special house and, when moving about the island, was accompanied by two quarantine officers to ensure that he did not come in contact with other animals.—ED.

Richard Pipes

It was frightening at times to read Professor Pipes’s words on the strategic arms situation. I also wonder when the major television networks will so inform the American public.

Now you should enlist a prominent ecologist to explain the environmental effects of nuclear energy and the reasons why we, as earthmen, must curtail, and eventually abolish, our creation of nuclear waste.

What catalog did Margaux Hemingway’s hairstylist get his license from? Most of our customers come in looking like Margaux did when she was finished.

Marge Liepe

When will your adolescent infatuation with Margaux Hemingway end?

Susan Winstead

Ruth Handler

“Women fear everything from death to rejection by their husbands…A woman feels less of a woman,” says Ruth Handler. I had a mastectomy last year, and it never occurred to me that my husband might reject me (he hasn’t), nor do I feel any less a woman. Mrs. Handler is being unfair both to people like me and to women who have experienced such feelings. It only makes them constantly aware of what people may think.

Holden & Powers

It’s nice to discover that those you admire for their onscreen portrayals are also to be admired for their offscreen interests and pursuits.

Arien A. Heath

I would like Stefanie Powers not to feel depressed, please, for to many of us she is indeed an interesting and appreciated actress. She should never underestimate the power of the Disney movies.

Garner Ted Armstrong

What is a man of religion thinking of when he says he would like to be “a guide showing someone how to knock off an antelope in Wyoming or a bear in Kodiak!”

Kathy Berg

Fresno, Calif.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Garner Ted Armstrong got to heaven and God was an elk?

Michael G. Hutsko

Norwalk, Calif.

Why didn’t you write about what the Church of God is doing for world peace, family love and unity, and reverence for God? If such things are forgotten in favor of a so-called “scandal” so that more people will purchase your magazine, then the world is in a sorry shape indeed.

Kathleen Criswell

Griffith, Ind.

Bruce Dern

You say that Bruce Dern was the first man to kill John Wayne onscreen. Aren’t you mistaken? Wasn’t it a Japanese sniper in Sands of Iwo Jima?

Sawyer H. Vincent Jr.

Morristown, N.J.

Reader Vincent is correct.—ED.
