Clyde Junior is probably the only male in Hollywood who can monkey around with Bo Derek onscreen and wind up stealing every scene. In the current R-rated remake of Tarzan, the Ape Man, C.J., as he is generally known, even takes part in a simulated ménage à trois with Tarzan (played by Miles O’Keeffe) and Jane. Born nine years ago in the Dallas Zoo (that makes him 18 in human years), C.J. was sold two years ago to the Gentle Jungle animal-leasing company in Riverside, Calif. Six months later the orangutan debuted as a second banana to Clint Eastwood in Any Which Way You Can. C.J., who thus far has grossed about $50,000, has concluded a nationwide tour for Tarzan and returned home to watch TV, play racquetball (his hands are so massive he doesn’t need a racket) and mull over a tentative offer—to appear again with Bo in next year’s Pirate Annie.
