“I’ve always been a scent person. I like anything that smells good,” says Kate Hudson. Good thing, because since playing a groupie in Almost Famous—for which she snagged an Oscar nod and a Golden Globe Award—Hudson, 22, has exuded the sweet smell of success. The role, Says her uncle, music producer Mark Hudson, “was so close to Kate’s personality, kind of frivolous, free, almost hippielike. She’s always giggling and having fun.” Hudson’s Famous costar Patrick Fugit agrees: “Her eyes always seem like they’re smiling.” That was certainly the case on New Year’s Eve, when Hudson wed Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, 34, at the Colorado ranch belonging to her mom, Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell. “It was my one day to be the perfect bride,” says Hudson, who admits that perfect grooming habits elude her. “I’ve never been a constant face-washer,” she says. “And sometimes, God forbid, I even forget to brush my teeth!” The 5’6″ actress is better about remembering to take her vitamins, which she does by whipping up healthy smoothies at home in Manhattan. “They’ve got carrots, celery, cucumber and lots of weird stuff,” she says. “I’ve been drinking really gross juices for a long time.” The results are anything but gross.
