Filming the title role as a bloodthirsty barber in an adaptation of the stage musical Sweeney Todd, Johnny Depp has been in his element: macabre material and dark humor. But the actor, 43, wasn’t prepared for a real-life scare: Late last month his 7-year-old daughter Lily-Rose was admitted to a British hospital. Depp and his partner, actress-singer Vanessa Paradis, 34, stayed at their daughter’s bedside for a week, several British papers reported. By March 8 Lily-Rose was “doing much better,” said Depp’s publicist, who did not specify Lily-Rose’s illness. As Depp stuck by his family’s side (he and Paradis also have a son, Jack, 4), the producers of Sweeney Todd have juggled shooting schedules to accommodate his absence. With Lily-Rose “improving,” a rep for studio Dream-Works says, “everybody at the studio is certainly with them in their good spirits.”
