MATTHEW’S BEACH PARTY
For sun god MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY, Nov. 3 was no ordinary day at the beach. His girlfriend CAMILA ALVES threw the actor a surprise 38th-birthday party for 40 guests at a friend’s oceanfront house in Malibu. “She brought him in blindfolded,” says a source. “He stood there totally surprised [then] threw his hands up in the air and laughed.” Revelers including CSI: Miami’s ADAM RODRIGUEZ, University of Texas buddies and mom KAY McCONAUGHEY were all treated to massages, bongo-playing by the actor, enchiladas and VeeV cocktails until 4 in the morning. “[When Alves] brought out his cake, he gave her a kiss and a hug,” says the source. “They were really affectionate.”
BUTTER TURNS FIVE
The cream of the crop hit Butter Nov. 5 to celebrate the New York City hot spot’s fifth anniversary (right). Guests like OWEN WILSON, JOHN LEGEND, TAYE DIGGS and MANDY MOORE were on hand, as was HEIDI KLUM, whose husband SEAL performed. JOHN MAYER (who chilled with GAVIN DEGRAW) snapped photos with a bevy of blondes while JAMIE-LYNN SIGLER (who dates co-owner SCOTT SARTIANO) partied with LANCE BASS to the sounds of DJAM. “It’s a friendly, comfortable vibe,” Sartiano told Insider. “That’s why young Hollywood likes it.”
KATHERINE HEIGL may not take orders from KATE WALSH on Grey’s Anatomy anymore, but she can still follow her lead. Heigl just purchased a house five blocks from Walsh’s home in Los Angeles and also drives a red Range Rover like her former castmate.
“As soon as you have a child, you can watch anything,” KERI RUSSELL, who had a son five months ago, told Insider. “We were watching Finding Nemo, and I started crying so hard! Everything hits you more emotionally.”
Gossip Girl star PENN BADGLEY is staying mum about his 21st birthday with costar CHACE CRAWFORD and pals over Kobe beef and pad thai at Tao in Las Vegas Nov. 3. “The dinner was a blast,” says Badgley. “But what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”
