Actress Vivica A. Fox and her husband, Christopher Harvest (better known as R&B singer Sixx-Nine), might want to think about leaving a spare key with a neighbor. Recently the couple locked themselves out of their newly built Tarzana, Calif., home after going outside to admire the landscaping. Neither had on shoes or socks, and their feet burned on the scorching walkway as they tried to figure out how to get back inside. Eventually, Sixx-Nine, in T-shirt and shorts, pulled an athletic climbing-the-walls stunt worthy of M:I-2 to solve the problem.
Danny Glover, who in 1999 protested against New York City cabbies who ignore African-American fares, has begun working on an upcoming Showtime film, 3 A.M., costarring Pam Grier. In the Spike Lee production, Glover plays a Manhattan taxi driver who faces the danger of a serial killer targeting cabbies.
Giovanni Ribisi’s wife, actress Mariah O’Brien, wants her husband to get a wedding-band tattoo. The actor, who is currently costarring in Gone in 60 Seconds, lost his first ring while filming the Oscar-winning drama Saving Private Ryan. Then O’Brien lost that ring’s replacement. But she realizes that hiding the tattoo could be a problem should Ribisi portray an unmarried character in another movie. And imagine trying to fit the original rings’ inscription onto his finger: Three stars symbolizing her universe, his universe and the universe they share, with a message in-Italian, “To my husband for eternity.”
Jessica Lange, 51, one of this year’s honorees at the June 9 Women in Film Crystal Awards held at Los Angeles’s Century Plaza Hotel, used her acceptance speech to air her grievances about Hollywood’s treatment of older actresses. Apparently, turning 50 is a multifaceted experience. “I’ll never be asked to play second fiddle…in one of these [action films],” the Academy Award winner told the audience, drawing loud applause. “I’m too old, and my aging male costars, who at one time were older than me or at least were contemporaries of mine, are now being cast opposite women at least 20 or 30 years younger, nubile, silly, deeply cleavaged….”
Not that Lange is sitting idle. In November she’ll head to London, where she will play Mary Tyrone in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night.
Fast takes: Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton married so quickly that Jon Voight didn’t have time to get his daughter and new son-in-law a wedding present. Instead Voight wrote a poem and drew a caricature of the couple….
