Even at the tender age of 5 weeks, Keara Kiyomi Hedican is teaching mom Kristi Yamaguchi a thing or two about diva-ish behavior. For her first out-of-town gig on Nov. 4—Mom was hosting the Philadelphia ice show—Keara left the home she shares in Raleigh, N.C., with Yamaguchi, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist, and dad Bret Hedican, 33, a defenseman for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, with an entourage of three (Mom, Grandma and great aunt). She brought her special diet—Mom—enough clothing to outfit Britney Spears for a week (although on Keara, it covered more) plus an SUV full of baby luggage. “We had the whole house in the car,” says Yamaguchi, 32. “Both my husband and I are just so green when it comes to babies.”
Keara, however, is breaking them in quickly. For instance, Yamaguchi says, her usually calm daughter threw “a little crying fit” at the airport waiting for their delayed flight home. “I went to pay for a day pass at the USAir club,” Yamaguchi recalls. “But a nice man allowed us to be his guests.” Let’s see: A little tantrum, a free pass to the VIP room—Keara maybe getting the diva thing down.
