SHE MAY NOT APPEAR TO BE AS WHOLESOME AS apple pie, but there’s no question that Drew Barrymore comes from the land of the free and the home of the brave. The 22-year-old actress has no problem shedding clothes, makeup or inhibitions as long as “when I lay my head down on the pillow at night, I can say I was a decent person today,” she says. “That’s when I feel beautiful.” As for outward appearances? “I change my looks all the time. I’m more excited to be running around in the world when I get to reinvent myself.” With several tattoos, including a butterfly below her navel and a cross etched on her leg, she sets almost no boundaries. “I’ve never done body piercing,” she explains. “It really scares me. I think our orifices are just too sacred.” Dean Cain, her costar in this fall’s Best Men, has Drew all figured out, “She’s a loving, gentle soul,” he says, “with a sprinkle of naughty to make her spicy.” Sometimes, Barrymore sprinkles on Jerome Russell body glitter. “You know you’re putting a good thing out in the universe when you put on glitter,” she says. You glow, girl.
