FAIR LADY

The ageless beauty of AUDREY HEPBURN was on full display as the actress arrived in Paris to promote Bloodline, one of her last feature films. Ageless indeed: In the crime thriller, Hepburn, then 49, played a 35-year-old.

In Gloucestershire, PRINCE WILLIAM, then 20, showed some sovereign skills by playing a game of soccer with pals while also chatting on a cell phone.

Outfitted in motion-capture reflectors, TIGER WOODS modeled his putting stroke for digital reproduction in a video game. At the time, the golfing great, then 25, had already won 30 PGA tournaments.

PUFF PASTRY

Hip-hop impresario SEAN “PUFFY” COMBS threw a characteristically over-the-top bash—including a gigantic cake—in New York City for the 31st birthday of girlfriend JENNIFER LOPEZ. The couple would break up seven months later.

Monkeying around on the Thailand set of The Deer Hunter, ROBERT DE NIRO (left), CHRISTOPHER WALKEN (middle) and JOHN SAVAGE enjoyed a light moment while filming the dark war epic. It would go on to win five Oscars in 1979, including Best Picture.

The 10-year-old Full House stars gave two thumbs up at the L.A. premiere of Alaska (left)—that’s one thumb for MARY-KATE (left) and another for ASHLEY. At 12 (below), they hopped to Pasadena in their role as Teen Ambassadors for the U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer team (Mary-Kate’s at left again). Then at 17, they flew to Paris to present mary-kateandashley, their fashion and cosmetics line for tweens (Ashley’s on the left this time).

Accustomed to soaring above the rim, L.A. Lakers star KOBE BRYANT—along with his then-fiancée Vanessa Laine—experienced a different sense of elevation on the Dive Devil ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Calif. The pair would get married in April 2001.

TOM SELLECK

made a diving save during a two-man volleyball tournament at Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach. Even though the actor partnered with top-ranked player Hugh Foster, his team lost both of its matches.

She’s got you, babe. Singer and future congressman SONNY BONO absorbed a two-footed body blow from pro wrestler Susan Sexton while cohosting The Mike Douglas Show.

It may have looked like simply fun in the sun, but CAMERON DIAZ was hard at work, filming scenes for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle on a Malibu beach. Eleven months later, Diaz would break her nose during a surfing vacation in Hawaii.

One brief shining life (counterclockwise from top): Kennedy, then 26, and his mother, JACQUELINE ONASSIS, dedicated a park at John’s father’s alma mater, Harvard; at a Manhattan benefit, Kennedy loosened up with future wife CAROLYN BESSETTE; his habit of commuting on his bike made spotting Kennedy New York’s No. 1 spectator sport; just before launching George magazine, John spent a weekend at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Mass. Four years later, Kennedy, Bessette and her sister Lauren would die in a plane crash while on their way to Hyannis Port for a wedding.

A sign of happier times: ELLEN DEGENERES and girlfriend ANNE HECHE nuzzled foreheads at the L.A. premiere of the sci-fi flick Contact. The very public couple, who often referred to each other as “my wife,” ended their 3½-year relationship in August 2000.

BLOND AMBITION

With ER wrapped for the season, GEORGE CLOONEY replaced his trademark salt-and-pepper tresses with a spiky platinum do. Fortunately, the experimental look went quickly out of sight.

Ziggy Stardust meets Cleopatra. Forty-two-year-old ELIZABETH TAYLOR demanded an introduction to 27-year-old rocker DAVID BOWIE after attending his concert in L.A. “I’m your greatest fan,” proclaimed Bowie. “You’re fantastic,” Liz replied.
