STAR OF THE WEEK

THE REAL NICKI

The new American Idol judge dishes her off-duty style (sweatsuits!) and why she’ll never ditch the wigs

• What did you look like growing up?

I played dress up, and I thought I knew best when it came to my hair. I cut, permed and dyed it. I never thought to wear wigs.

• How do you care for your real hair?

I don’t neglect it, I take care of it the same way a normal woman would. I use all Mizani, their stuff makes my hair really soft.

• When’s the last time you went unnoticed in public?

I always think I’m under the radar until I see an eyeball following me. But it comes with the territory.

• What does low-key Nicki look like?

I try to be comfortable. I’ll do liner and lipstick, that’s it. As far as clothes, I’m in jeans and flat boots, or maybe a sweat suit.

• How long does it take to get stage-ready?

About an hour and a half.

• Do you find anything about the process annoying?

I find every bit of it annoying, actually. I don’t love sitting there and getting makeup done, but afterwards it’s like, “Yay, we created a new doll today.”

WILL YOU EVER GIVE UP THE COSTUMES?

“I get tired of things quickly and then I need a new fix. Maybe next year I’ll just walk around in a space suit and call it a day. It’s like a high to me. Unless I no longer need that high, I can’t foresee myself being regular,” says Minaj.
