You’ve been crazy busy lately with music, acting, school and becoming famous. How are you handling it all?
I have really good friends and a great support system around me. My life hasn’t really changed, I’ve just become busier.
Are you very close with your family?
People laugh that we’re like the Brady Bunch because of how close our family is. We go to Disneyland all the time. Or we go out to dinner or eat dinner together as a family and watch TV.
And you’re all pretty musical.
Yes. My mom, Dianna, opened for Reba McEntire and George Strait and Hank Williams Jr. when she was younger. And my sisters [Madison, 8, and Dallas, 21] love to sing. Madison did some of the chants on the “We Rock” track on Camp Rock.
Do you have rules like an allowance or a curfew?
I have a curfew. And my parents will get mad at me if I spend too much money. I respect that. My dad is all about saving money, so I always call my mom if I want to buy something!
What do you splurge on?
I’m very serious about my shoe collection. I have 48 pairs of high heels in my closet, and they are all designer—Christian Louboutin, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana. It’s a nice investment, because you can wear them forever.
What can you not live without?
My MacBook laptop. It has all of my favorite music on there. I don’t even need it for the Internet. It’s something easy for me to write on and listen to music on.
You have such a great smile. Did you ever have braces?
No, I’ve never had braces. I did bond my gap together. Disney made me do it. I’m going to get in trouble for saying that!
What are your career goals?
I want to continue doing the TV show. Then I want to take my acting to feature films and take on more challenging crazy roles, like Rosario Dawson does. One day I want to write scripts and books, because I like writing. I also want to continue making more albums and tour. Ultimately, when I’m in my 30s, I want to become a director.
But first you need to get a driver’s license, right?
I’ve got my driver’s permit!
What kind of car will you buy?
I definitely don’t want a sports car. I’m terrified of little cars. When I was 13, my parents would let me drive around the neighborhood, and I started learning on my dad’s Expedition. So I think I want an SUV.
What did you think when John Mayer Twittered that he loved your song “La La Land”?
I was in school with Selena [Demi was homeschooled and graduated after passing the California High School Proficiency Exam in April]. I was on my computer, on Twitter, and Selena was doing her schoolwork, and I was like, “Ha! Oh my God!” And she was like, “What?” And I was like, “John Mayer just posted about me on Twitter.” I freaked out! I was so excited.
