Emmy Rossum doesn’t like to take any chances with her luscious locks. In fact, the actress shies away from haircuts in general these days. “I’m really afraid of scissors,” Rossum admitted to PEOPLE last week while hosting the Suave Challenge in New York City. “I get that panic moment — I think every girl does — when they’re snipping and you can’t quite tell how much they’re snipping.” Perhaps it all stems back to a ‘hair-iffic’ period Rossum experienced as a child. “My hair was super, super short when I was five years old and other every girl looked like Serena van der Woodsen,” she recalled. “I had short, inch-long curly hair so it was pretty scarring. I haven’t cut my hair since.” She does take good care of those glossy brunette strands, though. During the event, where women were asked if their hair products worked as well as Suave’s new, reformulated Suave professionals line, the
star explained that pricey products aren’t always the secret to perfect strands. “When you work on shoots, they always use super expensive products on you and I just feel like it’s a little out of reach for every girl, especially right now with the economy,” Rossum said. “It just doesn’t make sense to be spending half your paycheck on your conditioner.” Tell us: Have you ever had a scissors scare? –Kim Peiffer
