It’s been quite a journey for Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. Her critically acclaimed performance in the drama, alongside Mariah Carey, has already garnered her SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations along with plenty of Oscar buzz. In the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the 26 year-old, Brooklyn-born star dishes on her larger-than-life confidence, fashion philosophy and what she won’t do to fit in designer clothes. Dressed in a slinky, red Tommy Hilfiger dress and strands of diamonds from famed jewelers Harry Winston, Kwiat and Chopard, she tells the magazine of her glam look, “I feel like a model.” And while Gabourey can pose for the camera like any seasoned pro, her confidence didn’t come as easily as it may seem. “It came late, too late in my life,” she recalls of changing her attitude. “One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl.” And now, Gabourey goes for bold colors and glam gowns, including her favorite — the David Meister number she wore to the L.A. premiere of Precious. “It was so va va voom, my boobs looked so good in it. I had diamonds on too. Diamonds really do it.” Other than show-stopping bling, Gabourey says, “I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps.” And even though Gabourey has traded Torrid for designer labels, she promises that she won’t be slimming down any time soon to fit into sample sizes. “I hate yoga so much. Like if yoga was a person, I’d stab them,” she jokes. “It doesn’t make any sense to kill yourself, because who are you trying to be beautiful for? It’s a mind game, not a body game.” Hear more from Gabourey Sidibe in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on newsstands January 12, or at
